Hackmaster

HackMaster Basic (or HackMaster 5e) is coming.

Don’t know about HackMaster basic?
This Thread in the Kenzerco forums should be a treat.
(or alternately, if you want to just jump to the crunchy spoilers all in on tidy place, they’ve been compiled in This thread at rpg.net, although I really recommend going through the previously linked thread first)

I spent the better part of 2 hours after work yesterday reading through these and based on what I’ve read, I’m pretty stoked. In fact I haven’t been this stoked about the release of any game - digital or analog - as I am about this.

From what I’m reading, there’s a good vibe on this project, and as far as Kenzerco goes, fantastic is the norm for their releases.
Even the marketing setup just feels right - the release tie ins, the Erol Otus cover art (See the above linked thread), etc.
It may be a niche product, but damn, these guys know their niche, and when this is released, I suspect that niche is gonna get bigger.

Heads Up

TV adaptation of the Color of Magic / The Light Fantastic that aired last easter in the UK will air in the US on March 22 on ION
(which I’m pretty sure is channel 17 on local charter.)

I’ve been watching the teeny tiny version someone threw up on youtube and it’s actually not all that bad.

Amusing Warhammer Online blog series

Week One linked here
[The gist of it is some guy letting the community decide what he should play, leveling path, etc. causually- defined as one hour per day. it’s amusing.]

In keeping with my New Year’s resolution to focus on all things trivial, pointless, absurd, silly and fun, and not take shit too seriously, I’ve Not only started raiding again in WoW, (We’ve got pretty much all current content on farm, but then doesn’t everyone these days?) but have very recently re-upped my Warhammer online subscription.

I checked this out on release and loved it - It’s perfect for casual players (IE married guys who can’t spend 6 hours a night raiding) as the time commitment for good old fashioned bashing fun is pretty managable. ORVR, Public Quests that elimate the “LFG” pain in the ass aspects of MMOS, Leveling and Loot from PvP - what’s not to like?
At the time, the class I actually wanted to play wasn’t available at release (Knight of the Blazing Sun - Empire’s version of the tank) and for a variety of reasons I pretty much had to drop it intending on coming back later.
It’s now later.
I did roll up a Knight, and love it, however To mix things up I decided to roll a couple classes I’d ignored the first go around -namely Squid Herder and Shaman.
I still haven’t decided which one I’m going to take to 40 yet (probably the squigherder) but both classes are a huge kick in the pants to play AND the goblin emotes and animations are constantly amusing.
Healing classes are pretty much a pain to play at low levels in PvP Scenarios (if you’re up against a smart group, you’re generally targeted first and go down quickly) but once you figure things out (like how to hid your tiny goblin ass in a bush or behind a rock out of range of those nassty wicked tricksy dwarf engineers, shadowwarriors and other ranged damage rapists) things get awesome.

Initially we all rolled on PvP servers, however population balancing has been an issue that they’re still sorting out. this go around I didn’t worry about that and picked my servers based on Population (you want a high population). From what I’d seen the Open RvR servers are pretty much deserted - but it’s no biggie in Warhammer - you flag automaticly in ORVR zones so the difference isn’t all that notable.

So, Ironicaly, I’m playing WoW on a PvP server, despite WoW PvP sucking and being more of an irritant than anything else, in order to raid (PvE content) with friends,
and playing Warhammer Online on a Core (PvE equivalent) server and PvPing like a mofo.
